Expert ADAS Calibration Services

Modern vehicles are essentially computers on wheels, designed to keep you and your family safe. Features like lane departure warnings, automatic braking, and adaptive cruise control all rely on a network of sensors—and the most important one is the forward-facing camera mounted directly to your windshield.

At Aztek Auto Glass, we know that a windshield replacement is only half the job. If that camera is even a millimeter off-center after a new windshield is installed, your vehicle's safety systems will fail to protect you. We provide certified, in-house Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) calibration in Salt Lake City to restore your vehicle’s "eyes" to exact factory specifications.

What is ADAS and Why Does it Need Calibrating?

ADAS refers to the advanced safety technology built into your vehicle. The primary camera lens looks through your front windshield to read the road. When we remove your old broken windshield and install a new one, that camera is temporarily disconnected and shifted.

Our Calibration Technology: Static vs. Dynamic

Vehicle manufacturers (OEMs) dictate exactly how their specific cameras must be recalibrated. Our certified technicians use state-of-the-art diagnostic computers to perform both primary types of calibration:

Static Calibration (In-Shop)

Many European and Asian domestic vehicles (like Honda, Toyota, and Audi) require static calibration. This highly sensitive process must be done in a controlled environment.

  1. We bring your vehicle into our Salt Lake City facility onto a perfectly level floor.

  2. We set up highly specific, laser-aligned target boards at exact distances from the vehicle's bumper.

  3. The vehicle's computer is instructed to "read" the targets and digitally align its camera until it finds the precise center point.

Dynamic Calibration (On-Road)

Many domestic vehicles (like Ford, Chevy, and Ram) require dynamic calibration.

  • We connect our diagnostic computer directly to your vehicle's OBD-II port.

  • Our technician drives the vehicle at specific speeds on well-marked, straight roads in optimal weather conditions.

  • The camera learns the road lines and recalibrates itself based on real-world driving data.

Note: Some modern vehicles require a "Dual Calibration," meaning we must perform both a static target alignment followed by a dynamic road test.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

  • Yes. Every single major auto manufacturer mandates that the forward-facing camera be recalibrated anytime the windshield is replaced, or if the camera itself is disconnected or replaced. It is a critical safety requirement, not an optional upgrade.
  • Depending on your vehicle's make and model, calibration typically adds an additional 1 to 2 hours to your windshield replacement appointment. Vehicles requiring complex static target setups generally take the longest.
  • Yes! If you are filing a comprehensive insurance claim for your windshield replacement, the cost of the mandatory recalibration is almost always fully covered by your insurance company as part of the total repair. We will handle the billing directly with them.
  • It depends on your vehicle. If your car requires a strictly dynamic (driving) calibration, we can often initiate it during a mobile appointment. However, if your car requires static calibration, it must be brought into our shop. Static targets require a perfectly level floor, controlled lighting, and zero background clutter, which a standard driveway cannot provide.
